國際婦女節的由來
The first International Women’s Day
1869年，約翰·密爾(John Stuart Mill)是第一個在國會上提出婦女應該有選舉的權利。1893年9月13號，新西蘭成為世界上第一個婦女擁有表決權的國家。很長一段時間里，其他很多國家的婦女們并不能夠享受到這種公平和參加選舉的權利。
In 1869 British MP John Stuart Mill was the first person in Parliament to call for women’s right to vote. On 19 September 1893 New Zealand became the first country in the world to give women the right to vote. Women in other countries did not enjoy this equality and campaigned for justice for many years.

In 1910 a second International Conference of Working Women was held in Copenhagen. A woman named Clara Zetkin (Leader of the ‘Women’s Office’ for the Social Democratic Party in Germany) tabled the idea of an International Women’s Day. She proposed that every year in every country there should be a celebration on the same day - a Women’s Day - to press for their demands. The conference of over 100 women from 17 countries, representing unions, socialist parties, working women’s clubs, and including the first three women elected to the Finnish parliament, greeted Zetkin’s suggestion with unanimous approval and thus International Women’s Day was the result.

國際勞動婦女節(International Working Women's Day，簡寫IWD)全稱“聯合國婦女權益和國際和平日”/“聯合國女權和國際和平日”(United Nations women's rights and international peace day)，在中國又稱“國際婦女節”、“三八節”和“三八婦女節”。[1] 是為了紀念在1911年美國紐約三角內衣工廠火災中喪生的140多名女工。
同時，是在每年的3月8日為慶祝婦女在經濟、政治和社會等領域做出的重要貢獻和取得的巨大成就而設立的節日。從1909年3月8日，美國芝加哥勞動婦女罷工游行集會以來，至21世紀已走過了百余年歷程。在不同的地區，慶祝的重點有所不同，從普通的慶祝對女性的尊重、慶祝對女性的愛到慶祝女性在經濟、政治及社會領域的成就。由于這個節日一開始是社會主義女權主義者發起的政治事件，這個節日和眾多國家的文化都有融合，主要在歐洲，包括俄羅斯。
